Searidge Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 wine review by (PB)

This “bargain bin” wine which was bought for $5 actually has varietal characteristics. I tasted this wine blind against another Cabernet Sauvignon and picked it from the other one. Based on what? Based on the price of each wine. The other one was a $2.99 grab as a “what the heck” let’s see if its even palatable. More on that wine after this entry...

This wine actually has some pleasant–relatively speaking–aromas that are a bit fragrant and vegetal with some fruit to accompany it. In the mouth there is a hint of vanilla and a remote hint of cherry. First impression is tart, shallow and not much there. With some air, there is a suggestion of strawberries and a touch of chocolate and then zippo–nada.

Still, for this price. It is better than many wine I have had for significantly more. Raise a glass–but not of this.

My initial taste suggested that the Charles Shaw label had been relabeled Searidge, but upon another glass, and, C.S. is still tops at half the price.

I recently had a Sea Ridge red wine, didn't notice the year, and immediately liked it. Although I have tried, I have otherwise not been able to acquire much of a taste for regular wine sipping throughout my life. So this was a nice surprise for me! My guest at the time, who does like wine, before I even remarked, immediately said she liked it, and wanted to know what it was.

My girlfriend and I had stumbled across this label about a year ago now. Safeway, curiously enough, is the only place i find it localy in Spokane. Truly matches any 10-15 bottle ive had. Particular fave is the White Zin

You can only find it in Safeway cuz it's a Safeway brand, just like Firefly Ridge. They introduced it to be a two buck chuck competitor. I think it works for that.

  5. Sea Ridge 2007 Merlot is available at WalMart in North Carolina. It is a lovely Merlot!
Another bargain is Winking Owl - a light and fruity white - available at Aldi stores in states where wine is available at the grocery.

The whole Safeway thing is funny as that’s the only place we can get it here in Woodbridge Va. My wife and I get it for $4.99 and if you buy 6 or more you get 10% off. Needless to say, we split the recycling bins up on the street. Don’t want to be "those people"
