Domaine de Durban Muscat de Beaumes de Venise 2002 Wine Review (NW)

Sweet nose of orange marmalade
Soft palate and light on its feet
Light, graceful finish

This is a nice value in dessert wine. It's produced in a small Rhone valley region in France and is modestly priced at $6 for a 375mL bottle. Instead of heavy and syrupy like a lot of inexpensive dessert wines, this one is light on its feet. Raise a glass!

Having just spent a little time in the area where this wine is made, I learned that the French think it is "bizarre" to drink Beaumes de Venise as a dessert wine, it is meant to be an apertif, best sipped in the afternoon without food. Favored by the women in Provence over the men's favorite Pastis.

Just bought a few bottles of this at the wine flea market we attended last week. I am looking forward to bringing it to dinner parties throughout the summer.
