Dark Purple/red hue with lots of bubbles, with a ton of blackberry liqueur aromas, and blueberry pie underneath.
Palate--Vibrant bubbles with mouth filling blackberry and blueberry on a somewhat flaccid foundation which in light of its intense sweetness could use a lot more acidity. Finishes quickly.
Okay, not to be snobby but this wine is crap; however.....it will appeal to someone who isn't into wine, says they don't like red wine, prefers sweet wine having no clue really what that actually means. This is a wine that you want to chill down a lot, serve it with some fruit perhaps, or all by itself and even with--dare I say it--*with a couple of ice cubes in the glass.
OK--My wife bought it at Walmart on close out for around $6 I think. The label has a "medallion" awarding it 90 points and Gold medal winner from the Beverage Tasting Institute. (Never heard of it myself...) All I can say is, you cannot necessarily such "reviews" on a bottle label. And the people that awarded this were either snockered, or this was the only bottle in the competition. :)
If you like sweet, sparkling wine knock yourself out.
*This may be the first and only time in 40 years of wine reviews I have actually said to put ice in the glass...
