Salmon Creek Merlot 2004 wine review by (PB)

Okay, first we need to get a grip and remember that this is a wine that costs less than $5! Understanding that, let's proceed. This wine is a light red like the hue of a Pinot Noir. The bouquet is amazingly fruity with a touch of bubble gum and powder ending with a slight peppery note in the nose.

In the mouth this wine is on the sweeter side but pleasant enough to drink but again--let's take note of the price of this wine. It is NOT a good representation of the varietal grape but it is a decent enough "wine beverage." Yes it tastes manufactured; yes it is sweet; yes it is annoying if you're a wine snob but the fact is, this would appeal to the inexperienced, non-discriminating wine drinker who wants something fruity and simple. I give a good rating because it is more drinkable than many of the wines I pay twice as much for so given that--raise a glass!

Yes, I am one of those "inexperienced, non-discriminating wine drinkers who wants something fruity and simple". It is an enjoyable wine and I have raised my glass on several occasions with a bottle or two...

  2. I got a 2005 bottle of this from Marriott as a complimentary gift, and was quite happy with it. Better than the standard Merlot the other Marriott's dish out.

Salmon Creek is a pretty good label. The wines are all single varietal and a good value at the standard 6.99-7.99/bottle. It is supposed to be restaurant only but I found it at this website: www.biggourmet.com, they were carrying the whole line and occassionally have sent me super discounts on top of the cheap price tag. Hooray for Salmon Creek!

  4. My boyfriend and I discovered Salmon Creek Merlot at a Persian restaurant in the valley and absolutely fell in love. By far, this was the best red wine (Merlot) we have tasted. I personally think taste is taste and no food critique or wine expert can tell you what wine is better than the other unless he is stricktly referring to his own taste! This wine is in our memory as the perfect Merlot that went well with any dish we ordered. It was smooth, slightly sweet, warming to the tongue, strong with strength volume, and delicous with every sip. Why can't I find this wine in any store we went looking for it around Los angeles like two mad people. Does anyone know where it can be purchased in the valley or Los Angeles area?
