I hesitate to drink it because it smells like bad mushrooms. There is green discoloration on the cork. Does it mean the wine is bad?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9997088.post-1134960341687142502005-12-18T21:45:00.000-05:002005-12-18T21:45:00.000-05:00To be sure, the Sauvignon Blanc grape is the prima...To be sure, the Sauvignon Blanc grape is the primary varietal in any Fume Blanc wine. However, there are plenty of differences between a "pure" Sauvignon Blanc and a Fume. Most notably the difference is the wood barrel fermentation and/or aging. Mondavi pioneered (invented?) the Fume Blanc style mostly as a marketing ploy since few California winemakers back in the day thought there was a market for something called "Sauvignon... anything". Now there are plenty of "pure" Sauvignon Blancs coming out of Cali. Nevertheless, the ammount, type, and time of oak and other wood fermentation and aging can add complexity and style and a new flavor profile to the Fume.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09460807543143099642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9997088.post-1134928756312658332005-12-18T12:59:00.000-05:002005-12-18T12:59:00.000-05:00Isn't Fume Blanc just another name for Sauvignon B...Isn't Fume Blanc just another name for Sauvignon Blanc?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
